You’ve Been Careful with Everyone but Yourself

Shelly* sits in her car outside her apartment, rewriting the same text for the fourth time.

She wants to say that last night hurt. Every version sounds like too much, so she deletes it and goes inside.

Later she’s running the whole day back in her head, checking her tone in every conversation she had. She gives and gives, and it comes back thin.

What frightens her is quieter than the fighting. Her parents never gave her what she needed either, and every relationship since has felt like the same room with different furniture.

Saying Nothing Has a Cost, and Your Family Pays It

Gary* comes home off a night shift with his boots still on and stands in the kitchen.

His wife asks how the shift went. He says it was fine.

There was a call he can’t put down. The one time he tried to describe something like it, the room went quiet and everyone looked at him with so much pity that he decided never again.

The not-saying has to go somewhere. Lately it arrives as anger, at his wife, at his kids, at himself.

Months later
A teenage girl sits with her arms crossed while her mother stands turned away behind her

Your Teenager Has Questions She Won’t Bring to You

Brooke* is 14, and the answer to every question at dinner is “fine.”

She has things she isn’t going to ask her parents or friends she isn’t sure will keep a secret. So ninth grade is something she plans to walk into by herself.

And if you’re her mother, you’ve noticed. The loop you run when nobody’s watching goes: is she going to be okay, and how much of this is mine?

Why Your Patterns Keep Finding You

Three different lives, one shared root. Each of them learned early that being fully themselves cost something, so they got smaller, quieter, more careful.

That adaptation was smart. It held up right until they wanted something real: an honest conversation, a friendship that gives back, one night of sleep that isn’t spent reviewing themselves.

Some of the women I work with have sat in other offices and walked out feeling like nothing moved. Others have never said any of this out loud to anyone.

I know what sits underneath this pattern, and I know it moves.

Hi. I’m Dr. Elizabeth Wise, LCSW.

Trauma and narcissistic abuse recovery are my specialties, and they’re also my direct experience. That’s why people tend to get to the truth of things with me faster than they expected to.

You’re the expert on your own life. My job is knowing what to do with the pain and building a plan with you that fits the life you actually want to be living.

You’ll get real regard from me, for you and for whatever you’re trying to become. We work as a team on this, and the life we’re building toward is the one you define.

The Tools I’ll Put in Your Hands

Flash EMDR. A gentler version of EMDR that helps your brain process painful memories without requiring you to relive them in detail. We use it once you feel ready for it, or the day you ask.

Inner child work. We go back, carefully, to the girl who wasn’t protected, and you learn to give her what she needed then. One client called it learning to mother and father herself.

The parts you learned to hide. We go looking for what you pushed into the dark, the pieces of yourself you decided early on that nobody could see. Once you can look at them straight, they stop running things from the background.

Your attachment and family patterns. The ways you learned to connect or to protect yourself from connecting shape every adult relationship you have now. Think of it as finally getting the manual.

What Art and Music Give You That Words Don’t

My own creative background comes into the room with me. A song or a drawing hands you a language before you have words for any of it.

For teenagers especially, that’s usually the door that opens first.

More About Me

Let’s Find Out if I’m Your Person

You want this to stop hurting, and you want it to stop soon. That’s fair, and it’s a good reason to pick up the phone.

There’s a version of your life where you say the true thing on the first try, the door stays open, and your voice comes back without an apology attached to it.

We’ll find out together whether I’m the right person for this.
